4 Reasons Why the Middle Ages Were a Great Period To Live In

TThe ‘Dark Ages’ is a misused term, I believe. If anything, some of the best ideas were born during this period. I imagine this era — also known as the Middle Ages — to be one of the best times to be alive. Let’s look at four reasons why the Middle Ages were a great period to live in.

1. There were extremely low taxes to pay

The rate of tax that we pay now differs around the world — sometimes, it is also different across states. However, in medieval England, the tax rates were almost a constant — between 10–15%. This tax was collected to support the king and kingdom’s army. Even during the wars, the tax rates remained the same. How much tax was to be paid depending on the number of properties one owned or the businesses they ran.
